Defining the Purpose of a Learning Group
Design an educational group without misrepresenting initiatory authority.
What does the group offer?
A Wiccan learning circle, public lecture, coven and online academy are not interchangeable institutions. Decide whether a group exists to teach public history, build peer support, hold worship or conduct a tradition's initiatory instruction. Use words that communicate that purpose honestly.
An open online course can help someone learn vocabulary, history and reflective skills, but a certificate should not be presented as a lineage degree, clergy ordination or academically accredited qualification.
Setting expectations
Publish a description of meeting format, study commitments, accessibility, membership restrictions if any, and any fees. No one should be required to pay for unnecessary supplies or reveal sensitive beliefs simply to explore a course.
If a group's role changes over time, update its descriptions so old advertising does not mislead participants.
Put it into perspective
Draft a 150-word charter for a public Wiccan history study circle, distinguishing what it offers from initiation.
Research: educational ethics, public Wiccan organization policies and community governance literature.
