NATURE & CORRESPONDENCES / LESSON 8

Your Ethical Plant-Lore Portfolio

Build an accurate, carefully sourced reference entry.

A reliable reference format

Choose one well-identified plant and write about its common names, scientific name, local ecology and historical or contemporary folklore associations. Separate every category and cite sources that support each statement.

Provide a safety note that does not offer treatment advice or encourage ingestion. Include any uncertainty about the plant identity and why it matters.

Respectful publication

A polished entry should avoid claiming ownership of living communities' private plant knowledge. Ask permission for personal interviews and photographs, and follow applicable laws when gathering material.

The goal is to create a resource that a reader can use to learn, evaluate evidence, and protect themselves and the environment.

YOUR STUDY PRACTICE

Put it into perspective

Prepare a 500-word botanical folklore entry with sourced historical context, a non-medical safety note and a provenance statement.

APPLY WHAT YOU HAVE LEARNED

Save a written assignment

Use the lesson's study practice to write an original response, record your sources, and revisit it later. Students may save a draft or submit it for instructor review; feedback requires an available authorized reviewer.
