MOON & NATURE / LESSON 8

Your Lunar and Seasonal Study Portfolio

Combine sky observation, history and responsible interpretation.

Core knowledge

A complete portfolio should demonstrate that a learner can identify lunar phases, use accurate time-zone language, explain seasons, and distinguish modern religious interpretations from astronomical evidence. It should also show that the student respects local climates and community variation.

Historical, ethical and practical context

The final project can be a four-week observation journal with a phase chart, an eight-festival seasonal overview and an original optional moon-themed reflection. It should be accessible to people who cannot go outdoors or see the sky, with data-based observation alternatives.

Worked situation

A student living in a city with heavy light pollution uses a reliable sky calendar and photos taken with permission. They label these as secondary observations rather than claiming to have seen every phase firsthand.

A responsible method

  1. Create a four-week phase journal with dates and source notes.
  2. Draw a diagram of sunlight and the four main phases.
  3. Provide a hemisphere-aware Wheel of the Year outline.
  4. Write an evidence-versus-belief reflection and accessibility alternative.

Consider the limitations

This lesson teaches transferable educational or community skills. It does not confer an initiatory degree, substitute for a qualified mentor, or grant legal, clinical or spiritual authority over another person. Apply the concepts within your own tradition's boundaries, with consent, factual attribution and care.

YOUR STUDY PRACTICE

Put it into perspective

Submit a lunar-and-solar learning portfolio with calculations, cited observations and a 500-word written reflection.

Evidence of learning: Keep the completed work in your private study portfolio. Explain the source of claims and identify any limitation or unanswered question before requesting feedback.
