Trace a Claim to Its Original Source

A source-aware learning challenge with a practical assignment and a private reflection space.

What to understand

Historical claims circulate easily when a phrase is repeated from site to site. Repetition is not independent confirmation. A reliable investigation starts with the earliest identifiable source: a dated letter, law, newspaper, book, interview, or photograph. Record who created it and whether it directly observed the event. Later interpretations may help explain the source, but they cannot change what the original document actually says. A living community's memory is valuable testimony; its dates and factual claims deserve the same careful attention as any other source.

Your practical assignment

Choose a claim you have encountered about the beginnings of Wicca. Write it down exactly, identify its earliest source you can locate, and separate what the source states from what later authors infer. Record one unanswered question. Do not invent a citation if the original source is unavailable.

RESEARCH LEAD

Use this resource for context, and compare sources where possible. It is not an endorsement of all claims made in related traditions.
