A Five-Minute Grounding Exercise

A short attention practice using the present environment.

Meaning and context

Grounding is a term used in various Wiccan and contemporary spiritual contexts. Here it means bringing attention to ordinary surroundings, without claiming special powers or requiring a theological commitment.

What you'll need

Comfortable seated or standing position; no equipment.

A suggested sequence

  1. Choose a position that feels safe and comfortable.
  2. Notice the surface supporting your body without changing your breathing.
  3. Look around and name three ordinary things you can see.
  4. Notice two sounds in your environment.
  5. Describe one detail you found interesting.
  6. Stop at any time and record only what you wish.

Reflect afterward

What changed in my attention during this short exercise?
