Devotion and Discernment Portfolio
Show the ability to honor lived religion without overstating evidence.
Core knowledge
A final portfolio should demonstrate that the learner can describe several Wiccan understandings of deity, identify a historical symbol with proper context, distinguish mythic or devotional meaning from factual claims, and reason carefully about consent and power. Strong work uses primary or scholarly references appropriately and does not insist that all Wiccans share one metaphysical worldview. The student should also be able to create an original public reflection without misrepresenting it as a secret rite, an accredited degree or a guarantee of supernatural results.
Historical, ethical and practical context
Assessment should include an annotated bibliography, comparative analysis and a practical project rather than only multiple-choice questions. If human feedback is available, a reviewer should evaluate what the student actually wrote and identify opportunities for revision. A completed educational portfolio may demonstrate important skills without creating lineaged priesthood or authority to teach confidential practices to others.
Worked situation
One submission contains impressive spiritual declarations but no source notes and includes a copied copyrighted poem. A stronger submission explains its historical claims, labels personal beliefs, uses original writing and documents why private materials were excluded. The second provides more reliable evidence of reflective and research competence.
A responsible method
- Collect three public theological perspectives with attribution
- Analyze one symbol historically and devotionally
- Provide an evidence/meaning distinction for one personal experience
- Write an original accessible public practice
- Submit a reflective self-assessment and identify remaining questions
Consider the limitations
This lesson teaches transferable educational or community skills. It does not confer an initiatory degree, substitute for a qualified mentor, or grant legal, clinical or spiritual authority over another person. Apply the concepts within your own tradition's boundaries, with consent, factual attribution and care.
Put it into perspective
Submit an 1,800–2,500-word interpretive portfolio with sources, original reflective writing and a clear ethical statement.
Evidence of learning: Keep the completed work in your private study portfolio. Explain the source of claims and identify any limitation or unanswered question before requesting feedback.
Save a written assignment
Use the lesson's study practice to write an original response, record your sources, and revisit it later. Students may save a draft or submit it for instructor review; feedback requires an available authorized reviewer.

Review your understanding
Choose one answer per question. Feedback explains why each answer is correct.
