Lughnasadh: Honoring the Harvest

A reflective activity exploring food systems and the labor behind a meal.

Meaning and context

Lughnasadh carries Irish seasonal associations, while Lammas comes from a different historical context. Contemporary Pagan early-harvest observances may draw on both.

What you'll need

One ordinary food item, notebook, and any already-available public reference about where it comes from.

A suggested sequence

  1. Choose a food item already available to you.
  2. Trace what you can about its origins, growing conditions, transport and preparation.
  3. Identify at least two kinds of labor involved in bringing it to the table.
  4. Write one way to reduce waste or express appreciation without spending money.
  5. Record what remains unknown and which sources might answer it.

Reflect afterward

Whose often-invisible work supports my daily life?
